ABSENCES AND TARDIES
As we approach the end of our Trimester, we want to remind you of the State’s policies regarding Absences and Tardies. According to Ed. Code, Section 48205, the State of California only considers illness, medical appointments and the funeral of an immediate family member, (and a limited number of other situations) to qualify as excused absences. Each time a student is absent, the student’s parent(s) or guardian(s) must provide the school with either oral or written communication regarding the reason for the absence within 24 hours of the last day of such absence. The written communication must include the following: Notification date, Student’s full name, Teacher’s name and grade, Date(s) of absences, Reason for absence, Name, relationship and signature of the person notifying the school.
These notes are kept on file and become an important part of our school’s audit process. Thank you for assisting us in complying with state law.
Mrs. Fuerte is busy meeting with those parents and students that need assistance in complying with state law.
THE MET
We encourage all families to visit The Met! Currently the following is being featured at the Met:
The Metropolitan Club Presents: Horton Hears a Holiday. Decorators and designers from around the Valley will gather to ring in the Yule tide cheer with a gorgeous array of festive trees, each decorated in the theme of one of Dr. Seuss’ most popular children’s stories.
The Art of Dr. Seuss- A retrospective Exhibition celebrates the artistic contributions of Theodor Seuss Geisel. The exhibition chronicles his life and career with a focus on the common artistic links throughout his nearly 70 years of creativity.
VASA students took part in the Met Art Cat in the Hat Poster Contest. Mr. Muri Wooten second grader in Mr. Fink’s class won first place in the Kinder-2nd Category. Mr. Wooten and his family will be invited to a reception in December. The date had not been set as of this time.
ARTES AMERICA
An excellent museum/cultural center celebrating the arts of Mexico, Central America, and the American Southwest-check it out!
Currently being displayed is their Dia de los Muertos celebrations.

VASA AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Last Thursday VASA teachers, aides and parents who have served in the military were invited by ASP to come and share their experiences with the students. The program was both informative and touching as the presenters gave a firsthand account of life in basic training, as a soldier in Iraq and the wife of an Air Force pilot. The Marines, the Army and the Air Force where proudly represented. We want to send out a big thank you to Mrs. Mitchell, Mr. Pablo Garzon, Mr. and Mrs. Hancock and Mrs. Wimpey for sharing their stories, pictures and artifacts. Also a big thank you to Ms. Cristi Hayes, Rhino Group Leader, for pulling it all together!
