VASA INVITED TO PHILHARMONIC CONCERT!

Thanks to a sponsorship by Kaye Bonner, many of our students will attend the Fresno Philharmonic’s 50-minute theatrical concert “Tchaikovsky Discovers America”, described as “an imaginative and theatrical way to introduce young audiences to the life and music of Tchaikovsky.” VASA 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders will attend the concert during Friday morning, Nov. 13th. We will not be bringing parent chaperones, as VASA Aides will assist during the event.

NEW ATTENDANCE SYSTEM

VASA must change over to CALPADS, the state’s new attendance system. To do so, it is imperative that we receive an updated information form for each of our students. Extra forms are available in the office, if you need them.

VPO FUNDRAISER WILL AID OUR MUSIC PROGRAM

Our VASA Parent Organization has set a goal of raising $6000 to help purchase musical instruments for our school! From November 2nd to 16th students will sell the Fresno Live 2010 Discount Card, which provides discounts for 83 local restaurants, 31 stores, 13 entertainment venues, and over 60 services. You can find them listed online at www.fresnolive.com. VPO will award prizes to the top 3 student sellers, and a pizza party to the class that sells the most cards. Prizes for the top selling students:

3rd Place: $50 Gift Card

We encourage each student to sell 3 cards.

VPO/VASA’SGOAL IS TO RAISE $6,000. WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!

VISION AND HEARING TESTING

VASA has contracted with the Fresno County Office of Education to screen our students for both Vision and Hearing Testing. The nurse will be at our school site on Tuesday, December 1, 2009.  The following grades are required to be screened: Kindergarten, 2nd and 5th.  All Kinder and 1st Grade boys will also have a Vision Color Screening done, if they have not previously been screened.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We need parent helpers to assist with crossing guards, campus security, cafeteria assistants, office help, and classroom assistants, just to name a few.  We realize that few parents are able to come everyday, and that is ok, as we would like to make a master calendar of parent volunteers and find a time for you. Even if you can’t assist in the classrooms, there are many things you can do to help teachers from home. Please let us know if you can help!

CAFETERIA ORDER FORMS

As a reminder, we need to receive a Lunch Order Form from all students (unless they bring their own lunch every day.) Remember that breakfast is served between 7:30 and 7:55 am.

ABSENCES AND TARDIES

As we approach the end of our Trimester, we want to remind you of the State’s policies regarding Absences and Tardies. According to Ed. Code, Section 48205, the State of California only considers illness, medical appointments and the funeral of an immediate family member, (and a limited number of other situations) to qualify as excused absences. Each time a student is absent, the student’s parent(s) or guardian(s) must provide the school with either oral or written communication regarding the reason for the absence within 24 hours of the last day of such absence. The written com-munication must include the following: Notification date, Student’s full name, Teacher’s name and grade, Date(s) of absences, Reason for absence, Name, relationship and signature of the person notifying the school.

These notes are kept on file and become an important part of our school’s audit process. Thank you for assisting us in complying with state law.
